Nem azt mondom, hogy ezt másold le, mert a tanárod is ismerheti, internetről van, de valamit kivehetsz belőle.
Halloween is an ancient Celtic celebration which is a mixture of pagan ideas, folklore and religion, celebrating the end of Celtic year – the word Hallowe’en is the Celtic name for ’Summer’s End’. Bonfires and ceremonial extinguishing of fire and lights symbolises the end of the year.
This day is widely celebrated in Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man. The ancient Celts believed that witches came out at Halloween putting evil spells on everyone in their path. It was also believed that humans themselves could perform magic, see into the future and call up ghosts. Many people have Halloween parties, where toffee apples and ’monkey’ nuts are popular treats. Halloween games are also played, such as dunking for apples – the
aim is to remove an apple from a basin of water whilst keeping your hands behind your back, so you can only use your teeth – it’s more difficult that it sounds!
Halloween is also very popular day in America. Children dress up as witches and ghosts and go ’trick or treating’; they call at their neighbours’ homes and ask for a treat, such as sweets or toffee apples – if no treat is given the children play a mischievous trick.
