Veszprémi tűztoronyról angolul bemutatóhoz kéne szöveg! Valaki?
The Fire Tower of Veszprem is one of the oldest buildings and symbols of Veszprem. The castle on the southern end of the 48m high tower is of medieval origin. The cylindrical foundations are original, probably built in the 13th century during the reign of Bela IV. The tower survived the Turkish era, and later in 1703 just escaped the destruction of Hungarian fortifications that was committed on the order of Leopold I Holly Roman Emperor. Beginning from this time it was used only as a fire tower.
Most of the city is visible from the top of the tower. A fire tower like this was important in the life of the windy city where fires could easily get out of hand.
The earthquake of 1810 seriously damaged the tower. In the next four years the top was rebuilt in a contemporary style, but the exterior did not change significantly.
On the top the coat of arms of Hungary is displayed, which was replaced by a red star during the socialist decades of the country. The clock of the tower signals every quarter hour, and at the start of every hour recruiting songs are played. These songs were written by the famous XIX century composer George Anthony Csernak who was born and spent his childhood in Veszprem.
