Some experts think that cars running on petrol will disappear in 20-30 years, and the use of gasoline will be replaced by other fuels.

Fourteen countries and over 20 cities worldwide have proposed banning the sale of petrol-powered vehicles by the year 2030. However, a fully electric vehicle (EV) may not be as environmentally friendly as it seems.

On further research, it seems there is some opposition to phasing out fossil-fuelled vehicles.

New Zealand’s motoring professional, Clive Matthew-Wilson says the fully electric Tesla Roadster will use more energy and produce more CO2 than the average petrol car.

EV automobiles may be the answer to stop air pollution, to enjoy better, cleaner air quality in larger cities, but currently, a family car costing more than double the petrol-fuelled cars, with the maximum capacity travelling distance of 450 kms on a single recharge, it may not be practical in vast countries, where recharging stations may not be so readily available.

Due to all of the above pros and cons, I believe a fully electric vehicle for a citizen, earning an average wage, is still a fair way off.
