First of all,it is an incontestable fact that the political preparation from within of the Nazi infiltration of Hungary was carried in to effect almost exclusively by"Hungarian" politicians of German descent like Prime Minister Gombos, Imredy, Bardosy, Arrow Cross Fuehrer Szalasi,and manyothers, wholeheartedly and ably assisted by a host of generals of German origin of the Hungarian army.

The exclusive and rampant Quisling role of these people,and the decisive effect of their activities upon the subjection of Hungary to Nazi rule raises the question whether the destinies of Hungary and of South Eastern Europe,not to mention the Jewish population of the area,would not have taken a different course if there would have been no Volksdeutsch minority in Hungary.

As to the Swabian-Germanmasses themselves,it is interesting to note that between the two wars, their number in Hungary was generally estimated as being between 500,000 and 600,000 of a total population of about 9 million. The entire country was shocked when at the census of 1940,at the time of the"Sitzkrieg",suddenly more than1,300,000 Hungarian citizens declared themselves non-Hungarian ethnic Germans.

At subsequent elections, the German-Swabians supplied the bulk of the votes for the many mushrooming local Naziparties, including Szalasi's Arrow Cross Party, which with ther support,became the secondlargest political party in 1941, and the ruling totalitarian mass murder Quisling group of Hitler in the fall of 1944.
