My experiences with Slovak people are very various. In the southern areas I found them kind and helpful several times. But, mainly in the north, they taunted on me because I'm Hungarian and sometimes I was discriminated (for example, I couldn't buy student ticket when I was 17, but other people could get it). For a simple question to strangers on usable language ,,Do you speak English? Sprechen Sie Deutsch? Beszél magyarul?" I have also received disgusting remarks or only laughing.

To sum up, I can't understand this kind of hate and racism, and I collected these experiences only as tourist - I can't imagine how could the Hungarian people who live in minority feel because of this and how do they survive this in the everyday. So please, if you get in relationship with a Hungarian guy, don't make any problem out of his origin and language. All the Slavic languages can be a bit hard for us because of the totally different grammar and hard pronounciation.

Anyway, usually I found Slovaks' personality more withdrawn, strong-willed and willful than ours, but I don't know so many people of you, so of course it's a very big generalization (but this was your original question :) ).

Be patient and have breadth of view, usually we try to be tolerant and genial, and we like to get it back :) How old are you and where do you live?
